Charley has a diversified insurance defense and litigation practice, with a focus on workers’ compensation, insurance coverage, automobile liability, and commercial liability. Charley also serves as general counsel for several Alabama businesses, where he utilizes his unique experience in assisting his clients with contracts, general employment matters, and OSHA and FMCSA compliance matters.
A large part of Charley’s practice is devoted to representing employers and insurers in workers’ compensation cases. Charley has specialized experience representing clients involved in complex multi-party litigation where the workers’ compensation subrogation rights are at stake. He also serves as an independent mediator in such cases. Charley is a recent past-President of both The Alabama State Bar Workers’ Compensation Section and The American Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation and Employers Liability Committee.
Charley has a passion for teaching the law and mentoring young lawyers. He is a former adjunct professor of Alabama Workers’ Compensation Law at Birmingham School of Law, and is a frequent presenter at seminars for claims adjusters, risk managers, attorneys, and judges.
Outside of work, Charley enjoys raising his two sons, Will and Jett, traveling, and performing volunteer work with Muscular Dystrophy Association of Alabama.
